Senate Restates Commitment To Education Reform In Nigeria

The Nigerian Senate has stressed the urgent need for the country to align its educational and medical sectors with global technological advancements, especially as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics continue to reshape healthcare delivery across the world.
Speaking at a public hearing in Abuja, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Senator Muntari Dandutse, said that the traditional model of medical practice was fast becoming obsolete due to rapid scientific and technological progress.
GALAXY TV reports that the public hearing, organized by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, focused on six key bills proposing the establishment and upgrade of various federal universities across the country.
In a message delivered by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau on behalf of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate reiterated its commitment to addressing Nigeria’s growing population and workforce needs through expanded educational infrastructure.
Among the lawmakers sponsoring the bills were Senator Muntari Dandutse, who sponsored the Federal University of Health Sciences, Funtua, and Senator Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central ), who is backing both the Federal University of Education (Special), Oyo and the Federal University of Geomatics, Oyo. Senator Ipalibo Harry Banigo sponsored the amendment bill for the Federal University of Technology, Omoku, Rivers State.
The Senators emphasized that these developments are consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to investing in critical sectors like education.
